Resource Evaluation

Share on:

GHD provides integrated mining technical services across the globe. Our geoscientists can assist you in taking your project from inception to resource estimation or from grade control to reconciliation.

Our geologists and geophysicists deliver innovative solutions in project generation, program design, program management, quality assurance and control, data management, geological interpretation and modelling, resource estimation and auditing.

Here’s what we do:

  • Advice on tenement selection and acquisition
  • Exploration and resource delineation program design
  • Program implementation and management
  • Quality Assurance and Control
  • Drilling and GIS data management
  • Geological interpretation and modelling
  • Resource estimation and public reporting
  • Auditing and technical due diligence
  • Grade control and reconciliation studies

We’ve been intimately involved in the development of the Minex and Mincom suite of software; and have many years of experience applying Minex, Mincom and Vulcan modelling packages to mining projects.

Our geoscientists have supported major mining projects in Australia and overseas; including projects in China, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vanuatu, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

Agnew-Wiluna Belt Lateritic Nickel Appraisal

image

BHP Billiton Nickel West

BHP Billiton engaged GHD to review its exploration database for potential lateritic nickel opportunities within its Agnew-Wiluna Belt tenements in Western Australia. The study spanned Wiluna, Mt Keith and Leinster and incorporated decades of drilling and a tapestry of geophysical surveys. Lithology coding complexity, reflecting the sources and vintages of drilling data, prevented any straight-forward assessment of regolith chemistry.

Vale Exploration

GHD was required to implement and manage Vale Exploration’s greenfields exploration program within 11 EPCs across the Bowen Basin in Queensland. This program commenced in mid-2011. There were a number of challenging aspects to this work, including tight personnel markets and local resources.

AGL Loy Yang

GHD provide mine geology services to Australia’s largest coal mine. The Loy Yang open cut mine delivers 30 Mt of brown coal per year to a 2000 MW base load power station owned by AGL Loy Yang and a 1000 MW power station owned by International Power - Mitsui. Mining is carried out by four bucket wheel excavators that deliver coal to the power stations and overburden dump by a conveyor network.

Phulbari Coal Project

Asia Energy Corporation

The Phulbari Basin lies in the northwest of Bangladesh and contains 570 Mt of Permian coal. As part of a broader feasibility study, GHD geologists designed, implemented and managed a substantial coal delineated program within the Phulbari Basin for Asia Energy. Desktop studies and conceptual models informed initial geophysical investigations and drilling. Substantial coal delineation, geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations followed.

Watermark Project

Shenhua Watermark Coal

China Shenhua, China’s largest coal mining company, engaged GHD in 2009 shortly after acquiring the greenfields Watermark coal tenement in the Gunnedah Basin of NSW, Australia. GHD was initially engaged to design the delineation program, select suitable contractors, prepare drilling approvals and support community engagement. We were then engaged to implement and manage all aspects of the program from safety to environmental monitoring to resource estimation. Resource delineation included core logging and sampling, quality assurance and control, data management, downhole geophysics, ground magnetic and seismic programs, geological modelling and resource reporting (JORC). The program was aggressive. To meet Shenhua's timeline, GHD mobilised a large team of geologists, geotechnical engineers, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists and project managers at short notice.
