AMRC Wind Farm Project

GHD Livigunn was employed by Bachy Soletanche to provide pile fatigue analysis for two wind turbines proposed for the new Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and Knowledge Transfer Centre at the University of Sheffield.

The Powerwind 56 turbine is the first of its kind to be installed in the UK. It includes advanced design features and has a 56 mdiameter rotor head attached to a 71 m tower.

Australian Solar Institute

Australia is at the forefront of solar research and development and the Australian Solar Institute's role was to keep it there.

GHD provided the Australian Solar Institute (ASI) with communications support, providing a variety of communication materials and a long-term communications plan which GHD assisted ASI to initiate but which ASI could deliver into the future.

Clean Energy Program for China

GHD has been appointed to deliver a Clean Energy Program, involving the construction of the 98MW Xiaogushan Hydropower Station, in the Gansu region in China.

GHD’s design for the CSIRO Energy Centre sets a new benchmark in ecologically sustainable design.

Energy efficiency for the Yurok Tribe

GHD participated in the Human Capacity Building in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy System Maintenance Project funded by a US Department of Energy 1st Steps grant.

We conducted energy audits of more than 90 percent of the buildings on the reservation, performed solar and micro-hydro energy systems inspection, repairs, and potential siting analyses, and participated in community outreach and staff training in energy issues.

Hellrigg Wind Farm Pile Gatigue Analysis

GHD Livigunn provided pile fatigue analysis to Bachy Soletanche appointed by the main contractor Hanson Contracting to build the foundations for the Hellrigg Wind Farm in a remote location near the Solway Firth between Cumbria and Dumfries and Galloway.

The project involved the piling for four large (396ft) wind turbines with a total generating capacity of 10MW. The piles were constructed on unstable ground, and as such, each base required 16 x 900mm-diameter piles with depths varying from 25.0m to 38.0m.

Oceanlinx – Port Kembla Wave Energy

GHD was commissioned to design the electrical interconnection and control system for a 300kW wave-to-energy system in Port Kembla, New South Wales.

The wave to energy conversion is based on a parabolic wall to reflect and focus the incoming waves, oscillatory wave chamber and turbine. Later commissions included a review of the basis of design and gap analysis.

Renewable energy for Yap Island

Yap Island – also known as the Island of Stone Money – is one of the many tiny islands that make up The Federated States of Micronesia, located about 1300 km (807 mi) east of the Philippines.

Due to its remoteness, Yap is highly dependent on imported diesel fuel for power generation. With rising transportation costs pushing the prices of oil and diesel to unsustainable levels, the island sought alternative energy sources.

Paul Wootton

Paul has 25 years' experience in the development and delivery of heavy industrial projects, in both consulting and operating roles. He has more than 12 years' experience in management of renewable and distributed power projects (100kW to 50MW) using both conventional fuels and alternative fuels (such as landfill gas, coal seam methane, biomass, municipal solid waste, CNG, LNG, synthesis gas and solar-thermal). During this time he has also had key roles in projects involving gas processing and pyrolysis/gasification of household waste.

Paul also has experience in the pulp and paper, above ground mining and bulk materials handling industries.
