Investigation into Supply Side Freight Demand for Pilbara WA

image

In 2008, we were engaged to undertake an investigation into Supply Side Freight Demand for the Pilbara region in Western Australia for the State Department for Planning and Infrastructure. The investigation sought to determine the volume of iron ore and other mining outputs which were moved by road by the growing number of junior miners in the region. It also sought to gain a better understanding of the consequential growth in industrial and community inputs and services that may not have been anticipated by studies completed over the last few years. The investigation addressed these gaps by:

Describing and quantifying the likely future freight flows (as tonnes and freight trips) that will support the transportation of industrial inputs and consumables required by exporters and urban and mine-based communities, and developing a simple model for predicting the three-way relationship that could be expected to occur between major industry output volumes, industrial and community input volumes and population and workforce numbers.

Transport Energy Model for Victoria – Department of Infrastructure

Yarra Street Pier Reconstruction

image

The City of Greater Geelong engaged GHD to prepare a business case to assess the viability of cruise ships and other vessels calling at Geelong in Victoria. The business case development also included the derivation of the market demand for cruise shipping and the assessment of the required infrastructure.

The Yarra Street Pier Reconstruction Business Case defines the need, considers the options available and identifies an optimal implementation strategy for the preferred option for the City of Greater Geelong (CoGG) and the Victorian Government . It addresses the lack of marine infrastructure at Geelong’s waterfront and its impact on the development of Geelong’s maritime/waterfront activities, regional tourism and generally business activities in Geelong and the surrounding region. The options evaluation included qualitative and quantitative assessment including cost benefit analysis and economic impact analysis. The business case report prepared by GHD is publically available on the City of Greater Geelong’s website – see link here.
